- Annie Dillard, The Writing Life
BIOGRAPHY .........
Patresa Hartman began her writing career with an illustrated story entitled, Snapping Turtle in the Bathtub. Mrs. Read, her second grade teacher, loved it. Emboldened by the gold star on her Snapping Turtle work, Patresa continued writing fiction as a student in the undergraduate Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa and then later, academic research essay related to early reading development as a graduate student at the University of Northern Iowa.
In addition to writing, Patresa is a licensed school psychologist who teaches communication skills and preparatory reading at a community college. She is a regular contributor to The Rose & Thorn's Year of Gratitude blog and an assistant editor at the same literary e-zine. Formerly, Patresa authored a life and humor column, Biped Sideways, originally published twice monthly by The Indie, an alternative newspaper based in Asheville, North Carolina. She is at work on a collection of personal essays as well as her first novel.
Patresa enjoys gardening, singing loudly, long walks with her dog, and writing about herself in the third person. She lives in Des Moines, Iowa, with two cats, one dog, and one husband. They all shed.
